18ft Varne Built Hurley
SOLD TO DAVID and DEBS

Though we are very sad to see her go, we are also very pleased that Lady Emily has gone to wonderful new owners who we know will take as much care of her as we did.
So prior to the transfer of the website to its new owners we'd just like to wish David and Debs Beard all the very best in their new venture.. Lady Emily is a wonderful boat and will always look after you so enjoy your time with her and we hope we have a fantastic summer for you to enjoy sailing her.

For those who have enjoyed following our fun and escapades in Lady Emily, we will be found on our new website for our new boat Riona Dawn www.rionadawn.co.uk Once we get it all up and Running and our boat is in the water we'll be continuing our fun and river trips on there.
Also hopefully Dave and Debs will continue the updates on the website while Lady Emily is in their hands so we hope you'll all follow them as you did with us.
So that's it here from us.. we'll miss Lady Emily but we'll look forward to seeing her being enjoyed by her new Family, as we cruise up and around the Falmouth Area. Meantime look out for our Westerly pageant Riona Dawn and give us a wave.
And finally Thank you Lady Emily for the times you gave us we hope you continue to sail often and happy

Well that was then and this is now and in our second year of ownership we've changed her deck colour back to white and added some pretty flashy striping of my own design to her along with her new name decals complete with a cameo of Lady Emily Bronte of Haworth... Here she is sitting on a visitor mooring by the smugglers cafe on the River Fal near Truro.

At Anchor in Percuil ... 15th May 2011

Updates::: 27th May 2011 I repainted the deck with anti slip deck paint in White and also made a new cover for the Horsehoe Lifering in white with our logo and name on

The History

Welcome to our little site about our Hurley 18 'Lady Emily' She's a 1986 18 foot long keel Varne built Hurley with only 2 owners from New, William and Morwenna Southgate of Cornwall and Peter Hewitt of Cornwall before we purchased her on the 30th July 2010.
She's our first Sailing boat and we fell instantly in love with her as soon as we saw her.
Her inventory has stayed with her from the original owners and meant we had little to do or purchase apart from personal and safety items such as lifejackets before taking her out on the water for our very first sail alone on the Carrick Roads in Falmouth.

Here's a few pictures from the first day of ownership:

Her first sail was great and we immediately got a feel for the boat, she responded immediately and we soon got to grips with her, although we sailed only with the Genoa raised for the first sail.

A couple of days later when we returned to Loe beach with a more experienced freind we set sail with the mainsail reefed down and the Genoa around two thirds and we sailed for a few hours and had a truly enjoyable experience... Sailing our very own boat felt amazing and we are Deeply indebted to our amazing Tutors Keith and Julie Hargreaves for their immense help in getting us this far this soon...
And of course to our Good freind Aidan for his knowledge and experience and help in getting Lady Emily just how we need her to sail for now, he will no doubt enjoy many a sail with us.
We have a few more weeks of getting used to her, and hopefully a few more intense lessons from Keith and Julie before tackling the daunting prospect of sailing her over the Manacles and around the Lizard to her winter birth in Penzance (All shipping and Coastgaurds will be alerted :), we will pray for a good day and calm seas :)

UPDATES : Well we decided against sailing Lady Emily around to Penzance after all.. We had such a good season in and around Falmouth we decided thats where we want to base our sailing experiences from so our Little Lady is currently sited on her winter berth at Loe Beach.

Here she is after Pressure washing the anti-fouling off the Keel

After lots of hard work she's ready for Antifouling and then back to Sea :)

Anti fouled and all ready for sails dodgers and engine test then launch :)
